Growth Mindset Plan

Understanding the intricacies of the growth mindset is vital. I’ve been reassured over and over that the brain is malleable and that you can build your abilities. It was Ralph Waldo Emerson that stated “The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions. I received an influx of information from Dr. Carol Dweck, after all she coined the term “Growth Mindset” and she continues to be innovative with the concept as more people become acquainted with the benefits of this mental approach. In my growth mindset plan, I’m very adamant about giving my students and colleagues a context shift. I feel obligated to distinguish the difference between a fixed and growth mindset. Before this course I knew I dealt with self-doubt, anxiety, insecurities etc. but I didn’t know the catalyst behind that pessimistic way of thinking was credited to my fixed mindset. My goal is to approach people on this concept with humility and empathy with hopes of engaging in interpersonal communication that will evoke change within.

I don’t take my job as a Memorial Healthcare Educator lightly because I understand that students at the secondary level are either developing virtues that will propel them to culminate or vices that will prevent them from reaching their fullest potential. I also procured an understanding that the practice of growth mindset in classrooms can create a learning environment where there’s equality. Furthermore, My work environment is people-oriented and goal-oriented. The higher-ups ask that we are innovative. Being in an environment that is built on meritocracy is so fulfilling it actually feeds my growth mindset.

I understand that change is constant, with that being said I’ll forever grow, and adjust to the times at hand, while also engaging in the things that will make me more versatile because I understand that the world is so dynamic. I’m almost positive that my growth mindset plan will change, but I look at it as an opportunity to improve and cater to a broader range of people.

As I wrap this up I don’t want people to get it misconstrued, just because you assume the growth mindset mentality, doesn’t mean that you completely disregard the fixed mindset because it will be live and well. The moment you are faced with adversity, discomfort, struggle etc. that fixed mindset voice will surface. Dr . Carol Dweck calls this the false growth mindset when people lose their awareness for that negative voice that owns real estate in their head. It’s ok to hear it from time to time that keeps us humble, focused, and motivated.
