What is your “Why?” How do you want to accomplish your desired plans? What if you’re not the person who is called to evoke change on a larger scale? Will you settle for sparking the mind of that individual that is. If I were to be radically transparent those are the questions I’ve ask my self quite profusely and the answers that I’ve given is what led me to this Masters program in the first place. Those questions keep me honest and intentional about helping our students. It’s bigger than me, it’s about shaping our leaders of tomorrow.
I dedicate myself to being a shaper to the students that I encounter because I understand that students in this juncture of there lives, at the secondary level are either developing virtues that will propel them to peak or vices that will prevent them from reaching their fullest potential. In this day and age the students that I encounter on a daily basis don’t know what life is like without technology. There’s some upsides as well as some downsides to that. It’s evident that we’ve pivoted into a digital age, where it’s important that we leverage technology to enhance the learning experience of our students. I know that there are some teachers who are reluctant to endure this transition, but there will come a time where they would have to or they’ll get left in whatever time-zone they’re in.
I don’t take my job as facilitator lightly, I am passionate about giving my students a context shift, preparing them for the catalytic events they’ll be forced to reckon with as they transition into adulthood. Equipping them with employability skills to excel in their career choice. My leaning manifesto highlights what I’m intentional about when it comes to impacting the learning environment, what technology tool that I’m leading with (e-portfolio) and the benefits that will come from implementing them. Of course there are some issues, such lack of training, resistance to change, budget limitations, etc. but again if your “Why” is stronger than your hindrances it will only be a matter of time before you successfully pilot your individual plan. Pooling like-minded individuals with will help when it comes to balancing the burdens.
E-portfolios have many benefits. They provide our students with the platform to be radically transparent without any fear of judgement, they are given complete control over their learning experience, and its place where they could archive meaningful work that they may want to revisit. As you read this blog you’ll see that my public declaration of intentions is on huge display I plan to expound of this plan and bring other people who share my passion to quarterback this thing with me.
